“Travel makes a wise man better but a fool worse.” —Thomas Fuller
Some people truly know how to travel – so different from being tourists or holidaymakers! They know how to dive into the culture of a country, savouring the experience of the new, and returning home refreshed and enriched.
I lived in Tuscany for almost 30 years and would like to share…
Far away from the beach bars, far from ‘Chiantishire’ and a world away from the ersatz villas with bright turquoise pools, our house has stood for at least three centuries, part of the tiny borgo of Casciano, in the Brana valley, on the ancient route across the Apennine mountains.
Welcome to my house in Italy…
My mid-19th century cottage, in a village set between the hills and the sea, is in a part of Scotland now somewhat off the tourist trail. Yet once it looked towards the Irish Sea – that ‘Celtic Mediterranean’ – trading with Ireland, Cumbria, Wales, the Isle of Man and Europe and Africa.
If you would like to improve your English, while holidaying in this beautiful setting, go here:
Or perhaps you are keen to trace your Scottish ancestry, not just through the documents, but also walking in the footsteps of your forebears?
