High above the bustling towns of Lucca, Pistoia, Prato and Florence, amidst olive groves and sweet chestnut woods, our house has stood for at least three centuries, part of the tiny borgo of Casciano, in the Brana valley, on the ancient route across the Apennine mountains.

Built of stone into the hillside, it has breath-taking views from the second floor, while remaining cool as a cellar downstairs. The rooms have been restored in traditional Tuscan style.

La bellezza toscana è una bellezza di rigore, di perfezione, talvolta di ascetismo, sotto l’aspetto della grazia”.

Tuscan beauty is a beauty of rigour, of perfection, sometimes of asceticism, with the aspect of grace.

So how about a newer, eco-friendlier kind of travel? A hamlet with friendly Italian neighbours, somewhere off the tourist track, no TV, no wifi, just relax and listen to sounds of nature and the church bells down in the valley.
